Her degrees led her to work in the foreign service; however, due to her love for health and science, she made a career change and started medical school. Because Julia was the primary caregiver for not only her newborn baby but also her late mother, she saw a need to improve the support and community healthcare for families and children across Canada. Since then, she and her team have developed a platform that offers education, resources, and support from trusted experts within the maternal care industry.

“I designed Treehouse Medical with the intent to promote positive parenting, streamline maternal health information and build a stronger degree of engagement in the Canadian healthcare network.”

Podcast: Commodities and Technologies: Bringing an Antiquated Industry Online

What does it take to disrupt an antiquated industry like commodities trading?

Jesse Solomon is Co-Founder of Mickey, a commoditech company focused on modernizing global trade by making it easier for small to midsize suppliers to export products globally. He, along with co-founder Alex Rabens, set out to launch a platform with the goal of wiping out the global trade crisis. Today, Mickey is modernizing the way raw materials and commodities are sourced and exported out of the United States. In his role, Jesse oversees sales, hiring, and fundraising for the company. Since its founding in 2019, Jesse has been instrumental in helping to raise more than $10m in capital from top VC firms Lightbank and Lerer Hippeau. Prior to co-founding Mickey, Jesse led sales for Endeavor Content Live, a production house that struck licensing deals with film and entertainment companies such as Lionsgate, Warner Brothers and other Hollywood film studios. Here, Jesse booked and managed more than $65m in revenue globally within his first year.

Before his work with Endeavor Content Live, Jesse worked in talent booking for William Morris Endeavor (WME), the longest-running talent agency in the country. While at WME, he became the fastest agent to be promoted in the company’s history.

Jesse is a two-time cancer survivor who actively mentors cancer patients through Imerman Angels. He received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Business from the University of Miami. While a student, he was Vice President of the Sigma Chi fraternity, a member of the university’s men’s basketball practice squad, and was on the school’s radio station WVUM’s promotions team.

Podcast: PayFac-as-a-Service: Empowering ISVs to Monetize Payments

With experience in the payments industry for nearly a decade, Caleb Avery was often asked to help software companies who were looking to monetize their payments. Working with these businesses he realized software companies who were looking to optimize their integrated payment processing solution were looking for two key things. One, an instant digital sign-up experience. And two, to maximize their revenue.

Unable to find a solution that didn’t require his clients to compromise on either technology, user experience, or economics, he decided that he needed his own. That led him to build Tilled and create PayFac-as-a-Service. Tilled’s revolutionary platform empowers software companies to monetize the payments flowing through their platforms.

Podcast: Tech and Its Effects on the Real Estate Industry

Knowing ways to adapt and survive in the Real Estate industry.

Thad Wong is the co-founder and co-CEO of @properties, the nation’s 10th largest brokerage firm by sales volume (REALTrends 500). @properties and its affiliated companies have over 3,500 agents in nine states, as well as annual closed sales volume of over $12 billion.

Wong and @properties‘ co-founder, Mike Golden, met in the mid-1990s at a small brokerage firm in downtown Chicago. They teamed up to sell new-construction and condominium-conversion developments, and quickly became two of the city’s top producing agents.

In 2000, recognizing a need among fellow agents for more services and support, they established @properties. The idea for the name came to Wong as he rode a department store escalator past a Christmas tree adorned with ornaments bearing the “@” symbol.

From the beginning, Wong and Golden placed a heavy emphasis on culture, marketing and innovation, and in less than 10 years, @properties grew into the #1 residential brokerage firm in Chicago by sales volume. Over the past decade, the firm has expanded throughout the metro area and into Northwest Indiana, Southwest Michigan and Wisconsin. Today, @properties is the largest residential brokerage firm in Illinois.
